Crusaders' under 18s side started in the 2008-09 winter season following a successful open trial coupled with the ongoing development work at Welsh Conference Premier clubs. From that trial, enough quality players were recruited for not only Crusaders to win the 2008-09 Gillette National Youth League but for Wales to win the 2008 European Championship and the 2009 British Championship.

The under 18s, who will still play in South Wales, finished in fifth place in the GNYL in 2009-10 but, with a gap of five weeks before the play-off games started, declined to take part in the finals series and instead chose to rest and prepare for games against fellow Super League opposition later in the year.
